Academic Award Winners

The Surry Players theater group is please to announce that it has presented two academic awards to area seniors.
The $500 awards recognize a student’s achievements and interest in the performing arts, and are given each year at this time. Melissa Jellie, daughter of Peggy and Stephen Jellie of Charlestown, and Rebecca Breen, daughter of Anthony and Brenda Breen of Fitzwilliam, are this year’s recipients.

Melissa, a senior at Fall Mountain Regional High School, was not only active in the FMRHS drama club all four years, but also participated in the Walpole Players and River Theater. She also found time to volunteer at the Bellows Falls Soup Kitchen, and participate in Girl Scouts, the National Honors Society, and Mentor Program. She plans to pursue a career in film production at Keene State College.

Rebecca,, a senior at Monadnock Regional High School, performed in The Sound of Music, The Wedding Singer, and other plays, while also staying active in student government, varsity cheer, and other school groups. She also volunteered at the Austine School for the Deaf and the Keene Community Kitchen. Next year she will attend the University of Vermont to study animal science.

The Surry Players is honored to help these students continue their educations. They have already demonstrated an appreciation for the arts, a commitment to community service, and dedication to giving back to their communities. Proceeds from the groups’ plays this year in November and April will continue to support these awards.
