About Us *From a kitchen-table brainstorming over how to energize the traditional Old Home Day emerged a community project that has produced the equivalent of one play per annum for more than two decades, with no sign of subsidence or exhaustion. Beginning in 1979, the Players (as they later dubbed themselves) launched a project that, through tears and laughter, shared toil and insight, has done as much as any other to shape and conserve community identity in the latter third of the twentieth century. Non-New Englanders speak jealously of the benefits of our "quaint" form of governance—Town Meeting—but Surry is a Town Meeting town that nurtures its "social capital" far beyond one evening's wrangling over warrant articles. |
